Kelly Circle joined ALA Unit #153, Olathe, KS in 2006 to honor the service of her father and mother who met while serving in the Navy. Circle served on a variety of district and department committees as well as Second District Vice President and President before moving to Colorado in 2013. She has been honored to serve four years on the Government staff at Girls Nation.
Circle graduated with honors from Northwest Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. She earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Kansas School of Law and completed her PhD in Education at Saint Louis University. Her dissertation research, “College choice of veterans: Variables affecting and factors veterans consider when choosing their institution of higher learning” helped her gain insight into the wants and needs of veterans returning to school.
Dr. Circle has spent the last 13 years in higher education administration, most recently as Dean of Instruction at Red Rocks Community College, in Lakewood, CO. Circle’s leadership philosophy is one of shared governance with collaboration, communication, and respect among all constituents. “Where there is an environment of mutual respect and open communication, the best ideas come to the surface,” Circle said.
“I want to apply all I’ve learned through my education, life, and work experience as I serve as Executive Director and remind the American public of all the wonderful programs the ALA has to offer to our Veterans and our community. As we enter the next century of Service not Self, I hope to generate enthusiasm among our current members and increase membership, especially with our Post 9/11 veteran families.”
Kelly is enjoying life in Indy with her husband, Russ, and her mother-in-law, Louise. She and Russ enjoy cooking together, attending symphony and Broadway performances, and finding locally owned Italian restaurants (recommendations are welcomed!), while Louise keeps up with her Royals baseball and Chiefs football on TV.
Welcome to the Administration Division! We handle all activities related to the process of running the organization and we are happy and ready to assist you! Our division manages the Executive Offices including the National President, Executive Director; and all other National Officers; runs the daily operations of the building and its grounds; includes the Administrative Assistants team as well as the IT department. Our division also includes Constitution and Bylaws, NEC management, the Cavalcade of Memories and all archival and historic item preservation projects. We look forward to hearing from you! This division’s role is twofold from an internal and external marketing standpoint: The team produces messaging via print and digital platforms to the public, ensuring a constant feed of new information and mission-focused storytelling to those who aren’t familiar with the ALA. The division also provides members with resources to present their unit activities in the best possible way locally, with access to free resources like Auxiliary magazine, the ALA blog, ALA eNews, ALA In the Know eBulletin, the national website, brochures, news release templates, and more. These media communication vehicles not only help our members successfully do their work without worry, but they also keep the general public up-to-date on the ALA’s mission outreach. In support of mission outreach provided to veterans, military, and their families by over 600,000 volunteers, the Development Division bridges the gap between what veterans need and what the monies from membership dues can provide. Additional support is made possible through donor contributions to both the American Legion Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary Foundation. Donations from Auxiliary members and supporters help make scholarships, youth mentoring, support for disabled veterans, and emergency funds for unexpected tragedies a reality. Promoting Service Not Self and assisting the national membership committee with retention and recruitment strategies are key priorities of the Membership Division. In addition to answering hundreds of questions daily and providing support to members nationwide, this division is charged with the national member database (ALAMIS) and assisting departments and units in membership processing, annual renewal notices and membership cards, membership statistics, Paid Up For Life (PUFL) memberships, unit and district/county charters. The Operations Division handles special projects throughout the organization including Strateigc Plan management and the national training program.
Programs and Events represent the how and why of our organization; two distinct, yet equally valuable facets of the American Legion Auxiliary’s outreach mission.
Impacting areas which range from educating youth to supporting veterans, the program staff at National Headquarters is comprised of subject matter experts who ensure our mission reaches grassroots members, as well as target audiences outside our organization. Working collaboratively with ALA national leaders, we ensure the needs -- no matter how great or small -- of our military and veteran population are met. Through “boots on the ground” implementation of the ALA’s mission by our nationwide network of ALA volunteers, we serve veterans, military, and their families throughout every stage of their lives.
A vital part of the ALA’s mission delivery is the face-to-face training, idea sharing, and process development that happens at ALA national events. Often working behind the scenes, members of the National Headquarters event team are responsible for the logistics of national events, including registration, vendor coordination, and complete travel management. Whether it is for ALA Mission Training, board meetings, or our National Convention, these expert project managers ensure success through the 12-month cycle of events, reaching almost every corner of our nation.
