We all know that special someone in our unit who always goes above and beyond when it comes to supporting our American Legion Auxiliary mission. They are always there to lend a hand by being the go-to person of an event. They are willing to do whatever it takes to make the event or project a success.
Maybe they are the person who makes sure all those unable to care for themselves have what they need or makes sure community members have transportation to scheduled appointments. They are the contact person when a community leader is looking for some help with a special project, or an avenue to get the word out about an upcoming event. They are there to assist with needs of the local school or church, and always ready to support veterans, our military, and their families. There are so many things they do for the unit members and the community that you might wonder where they find the time and energy to do it all. But somehow this person is simply put…. AMAZING!
Just write a story of 1,000 words or less about all the wonderful things this person does for your unit, community, and the ALA mission. Here are the qualifications to nominate a candidate for Unit Member of the Year.
Nominees: Must be senior members who are not currently, nor have ever been, in an elected or appointed leadership role higher than unit president and are current in membership dues.
Units: Follow the directions and deadlines of your department. Submit a narrative of 1,000 words or less to your department. Describe the nominee’s accomplishments and activities and include the nominee’s name and address. Pictures of your member in action are welcome.
Departments: Submit only one entry. Please include the unit’s narrative when submitting this form. Entry is due June 1st and must be signed by the Leadership or PPP chairman. Please send entry to Leadership@ALAforVeterans.org. (Departments can attach their narrative to the entry form found on the National website Leadership page and submit it right from there as it is a fillable form).
Units, please make sure that you acknowledge your unit member, even if they are not chosen by the department. A certificate of appreciation can be found at Emblem Sales or just make your own to present to your Unit Member of the Year and to others who may have been considered. Make all of their efforts appreciated.
All 2022-2023 Department Member of the Year winners will be acknowledged at the National Convention in Charlotte, N.C. in August 2023.
In the spirit of Service, Not Self, the mission of the American Legion Auxiliary is to support The American Legion and to honor the sacrifice of those who serve by enhancing the lives of our veterans, military, and their families, both at home and abroad. For God and Country, we advocate for veterans, educate our citizens, mentor youth, and promote patriotism, good citizenship, peace and security.
