New York State Sen. Joseph Griffo presented New York State Senate Commendation Awards to several residents of the 53rd Senate District at a special ceremony.

Commendations are one of the highest honors the Senate can use to recognize individuals who have served and made lasting contributions to their community and the state throughout their careers or lives.

American Legion Auxiliary member Elizabeth Boise received this prestigious award for her tireless, unselfish, and strong support of military members and their families.

Honorees received a personalized plaque and commendation coin as part of the ceremony.

“These honorees are certainly worthy of recognition,” Griffo said at the ceremony. “They have demonstrated a remarkable commitment to helping others and have worked selflessly to improve the wellbeing of area residents, children, families, schools, and communities. Each has truly made a difference and should be applauded and commended for their efforts.”

Boise is so deserving of this honor, as she has made a difference in so many lives — not only with veterans, but with those in our community.

For many years, she has worked with Fort Drum adopting numerous platoons. She and her late husband, Howard, sent numerous care packages to countless veterans, both domestic and abroad.

Her gracious support and generosity for our troops have earned her this award.
