Sometimes the simplest gesture can have the largest impact

volunteerIn a day and age where everyday life keeps most of us busy juggling task after task, it’s the little things that can make the biggest difference — like receiving a simple thank you when due. When you think about it, it’s a painless gesture to acknowledge your appreciation. It’s probably safe to say that it will make a lasting impact on the person you’re thanking.

When it comes to showing your thanks, it doesn’t have to be elaborate, or even cost anything for that matter. For example, maybe you’re looking to thank a veteran on Veterans Day. It could be as simple as pulling out a pen and paper and crafting your own thank you note. Or you could pick up the phone and spark up a conversation. Either one is bound to leave a smile on their face!

Maybe somebody sponsored an event hosted by your unit or department, and it’s important that it’s acknowledged. If you really want to tug at their heartstrings, here’s an idea: send them a picture of the event and how their money was used. It’s as simple as that. Seeing their donation in action is bound to resonate with them. Also, chances are that they’ll be more inclined to donate in the future if they see how much of a true impact their gift is making.

Acknowledging donations to the ALA fosters goodwill. It is a good practice to thank all donors at some time; it is essential to provide a donation acknowledgment to donors contributing a lump sum donation of $250 or more in the calendar year in order for them to be able to include their donation(s) as charitable deductions on their federal income tax forms.

All in all, the ways you can thank someone are endless. Put your creativity to the test!
