Volunteers needed for The American Legion Oratorical Contest

Posted On: Monday, 07 March 2022

The American Legion Oratorical Contest exists to develop deeper knowledge and appreciation for the U.S. Constitution among high school students.

Since 1938, the program has presented participants with an academic speaking challenge that teaches important leadership qualities, the history of our nation’s laws, the ability to think and speak clearly, and an understanding of the duties, responsibilities, rights, and privileges of American citizenship.

Volunteers are still needed to assist with the 2022 National Oratorical Contest in Indianapolis on April 23- 24. This event premiers the top 53 orators from across the United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and France.

A minimum of 150 contest staff members are needed to kick off the nine quarter-final contests simultaneously taking place on Saturday, April 23, 2022, in Indianapolis. Currently, the Legion's biggest need is for judges, escorts, and timekeepers. Volunteers can register at www.legion.org/oratorical/volunteer. Questions may be directed to Youth Program Manager Kim Shriver at 317-630-1204 or kshriver@legion.org
