Wellcare in the community: How ALA units honored veterans

Posted On: Monday, 22 December 2025

Veterans Day reminds us of why we gather, serve, and show up in our communities. This past November, American Legion Auxiliary units across the country lived that mission in real and meaningful ways.

With support from ALA member benefit partner Wellcare, more than 60 Auxiliary units hosted events dedicated to honoring veterans and servicemembers. Wellcare provided pre-packaged party kits, which helped simplify the planning process and made it easier for units to focus on hosting meaningful events for their members and local veterans.

Units were able to pick activities that fit their members and their community, whether that meant hosting a poppy paint party, working together on a patriotic puzzle, crafting fall centerpieces, playing games, or sitting down to write notes of thanks to veterans and servicemembers. Each event was its own small but meaningful way of saying “Thank you” to the veterans in their community.

To recognize ALA units that participated, Wellcare entered each one into a drawing for the opportunity to host a larger event in 2026, along with $500 in event support.

We’re proud to congratulate the units selected in the drawing:

  • Unit 64 – Heber Springs, Ark.
  • Unit 62 – Peoria, Ariz.
  • Unit 202 – Brentwood, Calif.
  • Unit 117 – Palm Bay, Fla.
  • Unit 382 – Navarre, Fla.
  • Unit 374 – Highland Park, Des Moines, Iowa
  • Unit 076 – Carol Stream, Ill.
  • Unit 697 – Lansing, Ill.
  • Unit 334 – Port Barre, La.
  • Unit 245 – Prudenville, Mich.
  • Unit 427 – Haw River, N.C.
  • Unit 137 – Gloversville, N.Y.

  • Unit 225 – Upper Sandusky, Ohio
  • Unit 580 – Monaca, Pa.
  • Unit 36 – Centerville, Tenn.

To all the units that participated, thank you for the time, effort, and heart you poured into honoring veterans this November. The impact of your work reaches far beyond a single event, and we’re so proud of the way you continue to lead with service and compassion.
