Bingo helps veterans, community through Florida unit

Posted On: Monday, 24 November 2025

In October 2022, Titusville Unit 1 in Florida began hosting a weekly bingo at the post on Sunday afternoons. Not only did it bring in much needed revenue for the unit, but it also attracted more business for the post and increased memberships of the unit, post, Sons, and Riders.

The post home benefits additionally because the unit pays a small amount of rent for use of the dining hall/meeting room to help offset utilities and insurance. Many new faces appeared as they noticed the activity around the post. Another benefit is the kitchen staff now offers meals on Sunday afternoons to feed the hungry bingo players.

Unit 1 no longer needs to worry about fundraising due to the success of the Sunday bingo. All funds are being used to support various programs such as ALA Girls State, Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, Community Service, and Education.

The Education Program now offers three to five $1,500 scholarships to high school seniors each year since the inception of Sunday bingo. They are also able to supply four local elementary schools with much needed school supplies.

Community service plaques have been received from organizations the unit has supported with donations of $1,000 each. One organization supplies cold shelter relief for the homeless, providing them with a hot meal and a place to sleep. Two others are food banks which provide much needed food and supplies to the local homeless and economically disadvantaged.

Donations have been given to veterans organizations such as Their Voice of Hope, which provides therapeutic help for female veterans suffering from PTSD due to sexual trauma while serving, along with PTSD from combat duty. Another donation was given to an organization titled Solemn Pride Inc., which provides caisson services for deceased veterans at the local national cemetery.
